Sean Benson
Sean Benson received training in Mathematics and Physics (joint honours) at King’s College London to Master's level and subsequently completed PhD studies at the University of Edinburgh (2010-2014), working on the LHCb experiment of CERN, where his research focused on statistical analyses of LHC data including the development of AI models to isolate interesting decay signatures. After CERN and Marie-Curie Individual fellowships, where a large part of his research centred on the development of real-time analysis infrastructure and the design of fast models for real-time evaluation, he worked as a Lead Data Scientist at KPMG in the Advanced Analytics and Big Data team, where he developed and deployed explainable computer vision and natural language processing models.
In 2020 he joined the Radiology Department of the Netherlands Cancer Institute in 2020, where he led a team of doctoral researchers developing deep learning models using multi-modal medical imaging to predict treatment response and regrowth.
In 2023 Sean joined the Amsterdam UMC to research multi-modal generative AI and physics informed models in order to understand heart disease progression. Sean has received funding from the EU Horizon 2020 programme, CERN, and NWO.
