Lukas Arts

Lukas is a postdoctoral researcher with a background in theoretical physics and computing science. He obtained his PhD in neuro-symbolic signal processing within the Cybernetics group at Utrecht University, The Netherlands.

As part of the RESCUE.AI project, his current research focuses on applying neuro-symbolic AI to predict the risk of sudden cardiac death using multimodal data sources. Neuro-symbolic AI integrates modern deep learning with rule-based symbolic reasoning, combining the strengths of both to create machine learning systems that are safe, reliable, and interpretable, enabling direct use in medical settings. By leveraging multimodal information from Electrocardiograms (ECG) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), his work aims to gain new insights that progress cardiovascular risk assessment.
